Driving Home to Halifax From Victoria

So, we did it.. we got married.  Skye and I decided to drive through the US on the way home from our wedding in Victoria.  Here's a picture of Skye taking the wheel outside of Walla Walla, Washington on August 11th, 2012.

Our first stop was in Boise, Idaho to visit one of Skye's old high school friends Cody.   Cody and his girlfriend were very accommodating and gave us a place to stay for the night.  We had a couple drinks while Skye and Cody caught up.  We continued on through Idaho.  On our way through Idaho Falls, Idaho we discovered this interesting billboard.  I'm not certain it's purpose, but it was definitely worth a picture.

We continued on to visit the Grand Teton National Park on August 13th, 2012.  The view of the mountains was unfortunately blurred by the massive forest fires they were having at the time.  As the sunset behind the mountains you could make out their silhouette through the haze.

This beautiful view of the mountains was provided by the window front dining we had at The Peaks at Signal Mountain Hill in the Park.  Here below is Skye enjoying a delicious Bison streak.

We continued on to visit my cousin Trina Radske-Suchan in Des Moines, Iowa.  We happened to be there on the 15th of August, 2012 which was when the Iowa State Fair was in town.  Trina and her husband Tim were nice enough to come to the fair with us, even through they had been there numerous times already earlier in the week.

The state fair was incredible.  Not like anything we've ever seen before.  It was so massive that it had it's on smartphone application to map out the various vendors.  If there was something to be fried, be ensured that it was.  Everything about a state fair is huge, the food, the venue, even the animals.  Skye below standing with the largest bull in Iowa.

I guess in Iowa they take their farming seriously, here's a picture board at the state fair.

On state for a free show as Dia Frampton, it was quite a small crowd but was great nonetheless.

The fair kept going quite late into the night sprawling down closed off streets filled with vendors selling all sorts of food.

Here's a picture of Skye with my cousin Trina and her husband Tim.

Here is myself, Skye and my cousin Trina.

The state fair was amazing, Trina and Tim were amazing hosts but we had to continue on our way to Halifax as Skye was starting classes for her last year of undergrad at Dalhousie.  We kept driving through and shared the driving.  I worked from the passenger seat tethered to my phone while Skye drove through Illinois.

We stopped in Chicago in order to visit our friend Lisa Barounis which we met in Pai, Thailand.  We met up at her place and went out to an amazing place in Chigaco.  The lounge was reminiscent of a prohibition era and had no discernible entrance.  She walked up to what seemed to be a construction wall and knocked.  A bouncer opened the door and ushered us in to a pitch black waiting area while we waited for a table.  The cocktails were all period dated as well and were amazing.  We ended up going back to her house and slept in the spare room.  We were on our way the next day.

Here's Skye enjoying some Indian food at Tandoor Cuisine of India we stumbled across outside of Toledo, Ohio.

We continued on to a campsite outside of Erie, Ohio.  We arrived late but managed to make some friends with our neighboring campsite and a slightly inebriated gentlemen riding a golf cart.  We stayed up talked with both of them and ended up staying around our neighbour's fire for the night.

We continued to my sister's in Ottawa the next day.
